Summer heat is already beating down many of us. Heat waves are hitting in. We cannot fight nature but can make small changes to our diet. Here is a list of food items that keeps our body cool from within. We can stay hydrated in this summer by including all or at least few in our diet.

Melons

Melons are coolest, juiciest and healthiest foods. They can be used in salads, desserts, smoothies, milkshakes and even salsa.
They are good for stomach. Melons propel weight loss and prevent many common health problems such as cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, common colds and flu.

Bottle Gourd or Lauki

Bottle Gourd or Lauki is extremely popular for weight loss. It might not be favourite vegetable of everyone. But it is rich in calcium, magnesium, Vitamin A, C and folate.
This vegetable works well on high blood pressure and keeps heart healthy. It is considered as excellent blood purifier.

Watermelon Juice

Watermelon is the best way to keep ourselves hydrated. It is approximately 90 per cent water.
It aids digestion and keeps the stomach cool. Watermelon can help protect skin from oxidative stress which contributes to the aging process. It clears acne and brightens a dull complexion also. It is good to drink a glass of watermelon juice daily.

Mint with Lemon Water

One glass of strained mint water with two drops of lemons is wonderful. It helps to cleanse liver, boosts metabolism and cures low appetite.

Barley Water

Barley water is rich in fiber, it prevents constipation and helps in controlling appetite. Drink two glasses of Barley water every day. Add a drop of lemon and honey for taste.

Cucumber

Cucumber is loaded with fiber. Eating cucumber in summer helps in keeping constipation at check.
It also contains high amount of water. So it is very good food to eat and stay cool during summer season.

Curd

Curd is delicious and gives a coolant effect to the body. We can have it as spicy buttermilk or sweet lassi. We can also make raita and eat it with food. We can also add other seasonal fruits to curd.
Other cooling food like coriander leaves and cumin powder can be added to buttermilk. Buttermilk should be taken fresh after churning. Buttermilk provides our body with required probiotics, minerals and vitamins that might be lost due to excessive sweating.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is loaded with essential vitamins, mineral and other nutrients. It is best summer drink. It is easily available in all fruit shops.
It has cooling properties to help fight against summer heat. As per some studies drinking coconut water regularly can protect against cancer.

Mint

Mint is easily available with all vegetable vendors. Adding mint in curd, buttermilk or raita can give added benefits. Mint chutney is common in all Indian houses. Mint keeps our body temperature cool and also gives us a refreshing feeling.

Green Leafy Vegetables

Green leafy vegetables contains high amount of water content.  So it is good to include them in our food in summer and other seasons also. Overcooking them can cause loss of water content. So it should be avoided.

Lime Water

Lime water is a refreshing drink for summer. A glass of lime water gives lot of benefits. Lemons are good for detoxification. They improve immunity and have a cooling effect on the body.
We can drink it sweet with a pinch of salt and cumin powder to increase its flavour.  Lime water keeps us chilled and refreshed all day long.

Sugarcane Juice

Sugarcane juice is refreshing. It is also full of vitamins and helps us fight the heat.

Celery

Celery contains 95 per cent water and also essential nutrients which are good for hot weather. It is also loaded with sodium, iron, potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and zinc.

Fennel Seeds

Soak some fennel seeds in water overnight. Strain it in the morning and have the water to lower body heat. It is considered as one of the best means to lower internal body heat.

Green Beans

Green beans are highly nutritious and hydrating as well. They can be boiled, steamed, curried or simply added to salads of our choice. They are great source of Vitamin K, manganese, fiber and vitamin C. Green beans are also rich in antioxidants, flavonoids and aid fighting high cholesterol levels.

Radish

Radish is rich in water content, vitamin C and is great antioxidant. It helps lower body heat. Radishes have anti-inflammatory properties which are useful in fighting heat strokes.

Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds are most popular home remedy to reduce body heat in India. A spoonful of raw fenugreek seeds can bring down the body heat drastically.
